Genie's Take on Big Brother 12

Hello BB Lovers!

While we're waiting for the live feeds to return, I'd like to take a moment to reflect on this season. What a roller coaster ride it has been! Lines were drawn in the sand with the House Guests and with the fans. There was no common ground as to who to root for. Some jumped on the Brigade bandwagon; others were throwing boulders at it. Some liked Rachel, Brendon and Andrew; others detested them. Some were Britney and Ragan fans; others had no use for their meanness.

It got heated inside the house and torpid outside. Of course it did! We're BB fans. We're passionate about this show!

And these House Guests! Phew!

They made us laugh with their antics, angry with their prejudices, frustrated with the lack of their endurance performance, shocked at some of the things they said and touched with their unique connections. We bristled when our favorites were attacked, cheered when they were victorious, sad when they were hurt, disappointed when they were evicted.

This season has had an odd dynamic, very different from all the others. The house chose it's targets early, and struck out at them in unison, sometimes viciously and on a personal level. They were so focused on these targets that they failed to see the larger picture, the group manipulating things behind the scenes, voting as a block, influencing others. And one by one they were blindly evicted by the "Bragade".

No one else followed through in setting up an other alliance, though attempts were made. They skirted the idea like it was a Satanic cult. They formed 'pairs'. They called each other friends. They had showmances.

What is up with that?

"Is this summer camp?" I yelled at my monitor! "Bust a move! Do something to stir things up! Yeah. Yeah. Rachel this and Brendon that. Who cares? Play the game! Make a bold move. You're not there to make lifelong friends. You're there to play the game. Do the unexpected. Don't band together into a mob of maliciousness."

Alas, it was not meant to be.

So yeah, the Brigade is a bunch of self-described dodos, but these dodos have made it to the end. Getting together, and creating the smoke screen of side alliances was very smart. But they were also very lucky. Lucky that the others lost sight of what they were there for - to win 500 thousand dollars.

Incensed by their blind hatred of Brendon and Rachel, the other house guests kept their sights on them even long after they were evicted. They thought nothing of three guys hanging together almost all the time. They weren't an alliance... No! Not them! They just worked out together, played pool together, hung out together, voted together. Not an alliance though...

This was the BB Country Club and admission was given only to those who were deemed "worthy" by Britney, Ragan, Lane, Hayden and Enzo. The others just wouldn't do. They drank too much even though they didn't "spotlight" animals or hold down women. They used too many spices in their food. They practiced a weird religion and their jokes were strange. They had odd toes and funny extensions. Their implants weren't as pretty. Their pants were too high. They tried too hard to be on TV even though they were on TV...

Annie overplayed her Sabotages. Monet overshot her mouth. Andrew botched his speeches. Kristen chose the wrong alliance. Rachel was Public Enemy #1 and still is. Kathy was collateral damage of a lame Diamond Veto replacement. Matt overplayed his alliances. Brendon was too uncool for their tastes. Ragan's meltdowns and endless commentary were tiresome. Britney didn't win when she had to, or Lane would have jumped ship faster than his shower escapades.

That leaves Hayden with 3 HoHs and 1 PoV under his belt; Lane with one HoH; and Enzo with one PoV. They took the steps they had to when they had to and they got where they are now. Like it or not, they made it to the end. And whoever is there at the end, "deserves" to win. Not because they will be saving orphans. Not because sunshine melts the snow wherever they step. Not because they are "good people" - this isn't Mother Teresa's House. But because whatever "strategy" they used, and whatever dumb luck they had, got them there.

So like it or not. This is Big Brother. And we have to learn to expect the unexpected. Blocked feeds and all! :)

  6. He's okay. We lucked out and got a teacher he was already familiar with. But the poor child is so used to being home with me that the teacher has already called me to tell me my Tom burst out in tears and said "I want to go home to my mommy"
Yeah it broke my heart, but they have to grow up and face reality. Then as I picked him up today, I saw a little strawberry blonde in pigtails that looked just like me at that age and memories just swept thru me like an endless breeze. Bittersweet, life can be :)

  9. Genie I loved your blog...it expressed my feelings exactly!

I've asked this question a couple of times and still haven't received an answer...if you could help me I would appreciate it.

How does it work now they are down to F3? How is it decided who the final 2 are?

    Thanks

  10. I am more of a tutor than a teacher, as my wife reminds me because she has a University degree and I don'
t but between us we have over 50 students so thats enough to make a living full time tutoring guitar in a small town. I also am happy to getting back to teaching and playing as students now head back to school.

First time I've looked forward so much to a non live show in a long time.

  12. Wow, Genie of the Great Blue Sea, that was fantastic. I have enjoyed your sense of humor, your integrity and level of “endurance” since you first started helping Carolyn. You, our grand diva Carolyn, (well GaYTor is a diva too), Late Night Lessa and all you beautiful dishers, make this a pleasant place to hang out. I have not commented much this year due to work issues and other time constraints. But I looked forward to reading the posts each morning to start my day off with love and humor.

My Dad passed away last Saturday night, it was a shocker to say the least, plus the intensive whirlwind of activity that ensues when an love one passes away out of your home state. When returning home Thursday, I just started crying, well bawling actually, and my wonderful hubby said and I quote. “Get your phone out and see what is going on with your buddies on the Dish, that will make you smile.”

And he was right, last year we were able to go to New Orleans for a small getaway, and as a bonus I was hoping to meet GaYTor, but it was when he had his “brain surgery”, and I did not get to meet him, but Danny more than made up for it with his humor and charm. So, this site is more than a “Blogger” it is like family homecoming each day. There are some wonderful caring folks here and I appreciate each and every one of you! Love, Smooches and Hugs to you all!

  14. Hi Genie... VERY well said!!! I loved your diatribe about the season and you were very dead-on with your commentary!

I can only pray one of us will be on next season... or better yet, an ALL-STAR Season!!! Woo Hoo!!!

I do happen to care what happens tonight, tomorrow and next week... Although I will look to yourself, Carolyn and Lessa as the feeds are nearly unwatchable!

Hiya Aunge!! :) Thank you!! :)

Hiya Shi Shi!! :) Thanks hon! :) The F3 will go to Finale; Hayden... I mean the winner of the 3 part HoH will evict Lane or Enzo. Then the Jury will ask them their questions and then vote the winner my putting the key with his name in the slot. That's how they did it last year...

Hiya Didds! :) Thank you! :)

    Hiya David :)

  17. How sad will it be if Enzo and Lane make it and knock out Hayden!

While I've never been a Hayden fan, he IS the most deserving.

I've been in Enzo's camp all season, mainly because he makes me laugh EVERY time he's on.. however he's done nothing to earn the money!!

I would however give it to him over Lane!

Wow, that is tough. Its not been two weeks yet, and I am still having melt downs. I did not want to put a cloud on the blogger, just wanted to say thanks to all of you. I have to teach a class tonight, and will miss the show. Just wanted to chat for a few while I could in between work and class.

  21. Renee - I am so sorry for your loss. I'm glad you have been able to find some sense of comfort by coming to the Dish. This truly is a wonderful, caring group of people. And, a great bunch of comedians. Someone will always make you smile or literally laugh out loud!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Renee - It took me a year to begin to come to terms with it. It's a huge loss. Just be gentle to you okay? And don't worry about bringing the blog down. That's what makes this place wonderful. The love. We may not agree on what's going on in the feeds, but at the Dish we're a family. :)

  25. Hi Genie

Hope your having a great day. Will probably miss most of the show as am flyng and will be just landing as the show starts. :(

Last night was great fun and it really brought us all together for fun. I think we all take pride in the dish but you Carolyn and Lessa are the glue and we all really appreciate you.

Renee, have seen you post over the years and noticed your absence this year, am sorry about your Dad, hugs to you and your family.

  26. Hi Genie, good perspective on the whole thing.

If I have to root for the bragade :P I'm on the Lane train. Hayden will be fine but if Enzo wins and want a recount and an impeachment.

I guess this is why AGP blocked us before I can't wait to see what happens tonight.

  27. So well said!

The social power of the house is amazing. It's fascinating to see what people will do, what they will forget (um, like the goal of $500,000!), what will become important to them, what behaviors they will fall back on, and how they will try to influence others when confined in a home with other people with no outside contact or form of entertainment. Your blog is GREAT today. :-)

When you say members of the brigade hung out together all the time- this wasn't true, at first. At first, they made the effort specifically NOT to hang out together, but instead to hang out with their side alliance or with other HGs. They tried not to be seen with other Brigade members for the first few weeks. This helped get them past the first few weeks and helped cement the idea of their side alliance "pairs" in the minds of the other HGs as their true alliance. Once people got attached to the idea of Matt/Ragan, Hayden/Kristen, and Lane/Britney they focused so much on "pairs" that they didn't even try to look for any other alliance in the house (like you said). Once that had happened, the BG members started coming out in the open and hanging out, playing pool, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thank you so much Renee! That is awful, these poor kids doing all that time in college and can't get employed. That really sucks. :(

    ReplyDelete
  29. Renee-I am so sorry sweetie. Hugs!

Genie, your blog sums up the season beautifully. So well written and extremely accurate. So much so, Carolyn needs to print it out and give a copy to all the houseguests to read so they can know what it was we saw.

Best season ever? Best alliance ever? Not so much.

Best time dishing with everyone here? Absolutely!!!

  31. Know what's ironic? On Twitter last nite when Carolyn said Britney was evicted there were negative nancy's calling it a rumor (Caro NEVER posts a rumor) but yet today people are going crazy with the rumor that Enzo has won HOH. And if that happens to be true, I just may go crazy! LOL

And I love BB, even though I bi*ch about some of the HG's and CBS for the blackouts and for not having BB twice a year(lol), I love BB...always have and always will..and I will continue to bi*ch and complain, but to me that is all part of the fun..

I missed so much last week, but why was Enzo saying, 500,000; 50,000; and 25,000? Did anyone ever correct him, or was he just assuming that one of them would get the favorite vote?

  39. Jluvs. I'm not sure what kind of job you are seeking BUT. Most grocery store chains are always looking for cake decorators...and they pay better than most of the other jobs in the store. Sometimes up to fifteen an hour AND they pay for training. Just a thought. I know this because I too am in need of a job. It's hard taking a non salary job but sometimes you do what ya gotta

Turns out it was Genie's hammer making a direct hit on the head of the nail.

    Great comments, Genie!

  45. Great synopsis, Genie! I wholeheartedly agree with everything you wrote.
Can't wait to see the show tonight. Could it be that tomorrow night the last HOH is determined and an immediate selection of the person who will go with the HOH to final two? That's the way it was done in the past. It was only last year where the three contenders went to finale night, right? I don't think that worked too well, because Kevin didn't have a chance to really work with the others to make a decision. I have a feeling that it won't be that way this year.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Britney has tons of fans, readers of this site in particular love her. Fact is she was not a very good game player. She was not very knowledgeable when it came to house guests, she seldom studied the HG wall.
She seldom (maybe never) quizzed with others.
Enzo and Hayden did study, relentlessly. Lane could care less about such things. For him this was summer camp without the football pads.
No matter what Enzo or Hayden win it, Lane will not be rewarded.
Hayden against either is the winner and frankly he deserves it.
As for the season as a whole I felt it was ruined by the cattiness of Britney and Ragan. BB should have told them to knock it off.
    Their behavior was intolerable.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hiya Izzy!! LOL!! Thank you! :)

Hiya PattiZ! :) Thanks hon! :) I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow night. Maybe they'll tell us tonight! :)

Hiya Mike! :) Britney has a lot of fans! I'm not one of them, but I cheer everyone's right to like whomever they like! :)

I will def look into it, at this point I'll take anything!

  49. Hiya Genie!! I hope you had a great day today. I agree with so much of what you had to say, and it also made me think back to the beginning of the season and how so much different this season could have been. I never saw so many HGS that only wanted to make "friends" and "hang out"!!! They all lost sight of what the whole reason that they were there for..to play a game!!! I really feel bad for Rachel, Brendon, Andrew, Annie and even Matt who really wanted to play the game. Sure they all wouldnt have made it to the end, but it would have been great to see them lie and backstab and fight their way to the end. It would have made a heck of a game. I hope that next season will be better, because this one was very disappointing. I really dont care who wins at this point. I just want to see the whole cast together again. And I want Brendon to win Americas Player. Anyone who shaves his head, takes chum baths, and gets handcuffed to Britney for 24 hours, shows he was fighting to be there, and that is more then anyone of the others did all season.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Genie I really enjoyed your thoughts about the house guests. You are spot on as to everything you said. I wish I could write as eloquent as that.
I also hope enough of us complain that they will think twice about closing us out at the end, its not fair to us after all the c r a p we have put up with this season.

Thanks again for such a good wrap up of this season.

    ReplyDelete
  51. This cast is so into themselves they are going to be in shock to hear they are the worst season ever.

  52. Gee whiz Genie, your making me blush...thank you

  53. Genie--your words convey just exactly how I feel about this season. It was hard for me to find someone to root for after a few weeks. I have been obsessed with Big Brother since season 1 and i always had a few favorites. even though I didnn't really enjoy the houseguests--I still love the game and of course BB Dish! Maybe AG needed to give the houseguests a dog this season like they did in the first BB--at least I would have had someone to root for !! Thanks for all the entertainment!

  54. Awesome Genie! Your post is absolutely great!!

Renee, I am so sorry for your loss. Do take time for yourself. Scream, cry and yell if you need to. But most of all, just hold tightly to the memories that make you smile. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

  62. Perfectly worded Genie. That was the season in a nutshell.

This was a season similar to BB9 and BB10 where all the females targeted each other. Last year did not happen solely because no female won HoH until Chima in week 5, but Jeff used the cout de ta and pretty much overthrew Chima.
Rachel played her HoH very personally, and again, targeted the other females in the house.

As far as the Brigade, both Kristen and Ragan knew about the alliance, as was evident with their conversation with Rachel during her 2nd HoH. It starts with Ragan and Kristen on CAM 1, August 3rd at around 10:16AM BBT. I believe if Ragan would have been a little more pro-active and got Brendon and Britney on board at that time, the game would have been much different. Ragan had even said either on day one or two in one of his diary room sessions, that he would really like to align with Brendon. I believe that was part of Ragan's downfall, in that he became vile and hateful of Rachel and Brendon and lost sight of the game. That was around the same time that he and Britney started getting closer, the caty twins.

I believe that Ragan was a very smart game player, and knew much more of what was going around the house then anyone else. If he would have kept his eyes on the prize, and not gotten sucked into Britney's caty world, this could have been a much different outcome.

I have enjoyed this season. The Bragade was entertaining to watch and they did pull it off. Luck or whatever. Even with Rachel being annoying, she was good entertainment. I loved the flip the cup game!

Not really but I won't be happy.

  78. AWESOME job Genie ;) You were dead on with your assessment. This season could have been played out so differently had the house not reverted to the "mob mentality." I know it's easier to say in retrospect. I think it's going to be interesting to see Ragan's face when he finds out that Rachel/Andrew were right about Kristen and Hayden making out...and of course the Matt lie...only b/c Ragan swore he knew it all.

This season for me began out very boring and I actually had to wait weeks before I decided on who to like! I just wish the edits weren't so one-sided because the TV-only viewers have no real idea how their favorite houseguests acted.

  86. I am so sorry to say i will be SURPRISED if there is another season due to the boredom and ratings due to NON entertaining house guest this season. This line up will make an AWESOME All Stars and revive Big Brother. I hate to say this but have we seen our last season?

This line up would revive Big Brother in my opinion as a All Stars Season
    Dick-Big-Brother-8
    Daneile-Big-Brother-8
    James-Big-Brother-9
    Chelsia-Big-Brother-9
    Joshua-Big-Brother-9
    Steven-Big-Brother-10
    Keesha-Big-Brother-10
    Renny-Big-Brother-10
    Jeff-Big-Brother-11
    Jordan-Big-Brother-11
    Russell-Big-Brother-11
    Rachal-Big-Brother-12
    Brendon-Big-Brother-12

  87. Okay so I met Kathy's best friend on Twitter, and she had me cracking UP over Kathy's non-cooking self! She said they're like sister wives, she cooks and Kathy comes over with her Tupperware containers and cleans.

Hilarious!!! Sounds like an awesome friendship :)

  88. Genie Sea!!! GURL! You said a mouthful and summed it all up so succinctly.

It would have taken me 6 novellas to say that much and mine would have never made sense anyway. Much like this season, my thoughts rarely make any sense.

For all your hard work and diligently sticking with us dodos in the "Season from Hell" I bow to you.

Hey! Everyone back there quit looking at my butt. (_|_)

  89. Hiya SpnchAcres! :) Love your list! :)

Hiya Gaytor!! Thanks honey!! :) Huggies!!

  90. hmmm...Missys caller just said what I have thought all season. I can guarantee you that I would be in sweats, pj's with my hair in a ponytail and no make-up on 24/7 unless it was a show day ~~ If nothing else I could scare everyone out lol

  91. If BB is not renewed it won't be because of ratings. They are the highest of any season.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I just wanted to say the banner is awesome..

    ReplyDelete
  93. curlerchick!! " I think we all take pride in the dish but you Carolyn and Lessa are the glue and we all really appreciate you."

Now you went and made me think of their sticky stuff. That was just plain mean.

reneep, big hugs to you. My sincere condolences to you and your family. Losing both my parents to long illnesses was hard enough, I can't imagine what you are dealing with.

I am still kicking myself in the brain for missing your visit. But I just read what you posted to Danny. He very much enjoyed meeting you.

  94. Survivor will be going at least until its 22nd season (as far into the future as its currently renewed) I cant see BB being....at least not next year yet

    ReplyDelete
  95. Big Brother ain't going anywhere lol

Syn has been doing a super-fantastic job with the banners!

    ReplyDelete
  96. not to mention how long some of the USA soaps have been going eg 30-35 years? DAys and all my children, general hospital etc. i think BB fans are just as hard core as soap fans

    ReplyDelete
  97. For the cast to be so disliked, the ratings are thru the roof for CBS this year!

I liked someone's idea on Twitter: That since it will be the 13th season, it should have a lucky/unlucky theme.

    ReplyDelete
  98. UGH! I hate being a TV only!

30 more minutes until he show...4 or 5 more hours until the feeds come back?!?

    ReplyDelete
  99. Less than 30 minutes til showtime!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Okay, home from work, getting ready to read your post Genie of the Dish . . .

Looking forward to tonights show . . . shirtless of course . . . GaYToR, how about you??? Missy's reaction when you said you weren't wearing any pants . . . priceless . . .

    ReplyDelete
  101. David, you forgot Young and the Restless :)

  102. Michelle - 4 hours til feeds are back

  103. Re: all the rumors flying about. I think I've heard them all. Probably not all but enough of them.

I do hope one I've heard is true, as long as no one got physically hurt. Not that I have read anywhere that anything got physical. Just would hate to know it happened.

Come on 9 PM BBT! I want my feeds back!!

And I have to share some great news that I know will make everyone so happy you will pee your pants. (NOT)

I'm not deserting ship tonight or tomorrow. Danny's now got a back problem and we know he wouldn't be able to go to the concert tomorrow night and stand for hours. So I released my tickets this morning so someone else can go. We will still go to the big parade tomorrow late afternoon, but I'll be back in time for tomorrow's show too. I'm not going to call it a Live Show until we know for sure it will be.

Now everyone calm down. I know you were all worried about me not being here. HA again!

You all know how full of myself I can get. This one may have been my best yet.

  104. Great Post . . . You so hit the nail on the head regarding the Brigade . . . they may be a bunch of dodos but one of them is going to get $500K and another one $50K . . . I so hope a third one gets $25K, no not Enzo but Matt . . . he was the key manipulator and had everyone so in his pocket that he forgot to check all his pockets . . . the lie was only to the HG . . . to us, we knew the truth and his family knew he would do something like this . .

    GEAUX Shirtless Summer Hollywood Hayden . . . F1

    ReplyDelete
  105. LEFT!!!! I'm shirtless and ready! I've been nekkid for 2 days now, ready to party down on the Shirtless Hayden Bus!

I've still got to find that hour with Missy and Carolyn to listen. If it's up for flashback yet I can't find it. I could never hear Missy. I was having issues hearing anything.

  106. Perfectly put Genie! I have been scratching my head all season too wondering why the hgs didnt notice the dodos in the Bragade. They deserved what they got. Thanks for keeping this such a nice place to visit with such nice and funny people. 10 minutes til showtime!!! woot!!

    ReplyDelete
  107. jluvs, how do you get all the good twitter people win fun comments??? :)~

    ReplyDelete
  108. Yea Michelle, Boo Danny's back. I've been there so I really feel for him. Actually the pain is in his butt and I had nothing to do with that.

Well I am a pain in the ass, but I swear it's not that kind of pain for him. We never do that anymore. We only have hallway sex.

    ReplyDelete
  109. excellent analogy Genie.

    Love it

  110. Genie! My thoughts exactly. Thank you for blogging what MANY of us were feeling!

    ReplyDelete
  112. I don't think I have replied here at all this season, but I read you daily. Just had to comment this couldn't have been written better. Totally my thoughts on the entire season.

Thanks for all you guys do to keep this blog running. I wouldn't enjoy big brother without reading this blog every day!

Crossing fingers that next season has some gutsier players! (What was with that 8 second thing anyway, my loyalties shifted to Enzo by his reaction after that conversation. I have never heard of such a thing)
