Politics Hits the BB House

This could be a fire starter.

Spark up the feeds, folks. It's getting hot in there. Renny is being very open about her political beliefs. Keesha's been honest and said she was a Hillary supporter. Libra's kept her mouth shut, thus far, but you can feel her temperature rising. Dan's flat out lying, telling them he's undecided.

I can't help but wonder if any of the discoveries made tonight will have an impact on alliances.

7:43pm BBT
Libra just threw her hat in the ring. She hasn't started stumping for Obama yet, but she's not far off... Renny's politics are really surprising me. When asked, she says she'll be voting McCain. Jerry's about to tell a Clinton joke - not surprising.

7:45pm BBT
Talk turns to safer (?) territory: bashing Chelsea Clinton. April gives her a solid 3. Ollie makes fun of her gums.

CUT TO:
7:46pm BBT
Libra has excused herself to join Memphis outside for a game of pool.. and just *away* from that conversation.

Memphis brings it straight to the point.

Memphis: Geez. If we're gonna go there, let's get really raw. Let's talk about abortion, let's talk about...

He lists several divisive topics, and says that's why he left the room. It's good bonding time for him and Libra.

8:30pm BBT
April said a couple times today that she would be calling the 7 up to HoH regarding respecting her wishes... Waiting for it...

If any topic should be off limits in the Big Brother game.....it should be politics.

That's a no win situation.

Thanks Carolyn:)

And, thanks for the heads up! I just turned the volume back up on the live feeds. I love listening to others talk politics. I don't discuss politics myself, personally, but I like listening to others on t.v. Always makes for good television.

AWWWWWW!!!
Libra walked outside. I want to hear people defend things they believe in. I know it has nothing to do with the game, but in a way it does. HG's could re-position themselves depending on how others in the house think politically, socially, religiously, economically, etc. THAT'S why I want the fireworks. Just to see if people change alliances because of those things.

There are somethings you just don't talk about in mixed company...but of course with every other topic covered it had to go there eventually. I am glad the "herd of sheep" have to deiced to split into smaller herds. Let's see where this all goes ...Loving the alliances now :)

you shouldn't talk about politics anywhere...oops isn't everything we say or do all about politics.why not express your opinions..that is your right as a citizen..if not having the same opinion as you in politics makes you a dumb citizen and ignorant then you are in the wrong country..there is a reason this country is divided..pp have their opinions and why should we not be aloud to talk about it? i mean they trashed nat about her abortions last year..grow up libra and realize that not everone believes the same as you.

I agree Dan told a huge lie. He clearly said at the beginning of this season he is a conservative republican and thinks Bush is doing a good job. Independents typically do not say things like that.

Maybe he means he is undecided about who he will be voting for in the general election this fall. (Trying to give him the benefit of the doubt to get out of the lie)

I agree, Bama, politics are a no win situation, which is why I avoid that convo myself in my every day life, but I do think it could be exciting to watch on t.v.

I know that is one of the subjects BB wanted the HG to clash over, but I am glad they are changing the subject. I don't agree with some of them and that's ok. I have my opinion, they have theirs. That is one of the reasons we are in the United States. Our ancestors fought to give us that right to disagree.

to clarify my last line...i was dissapointed in the way that libra handled the situation by lying and walking off calling them dumb...if she felt they were that wrong then she should have expressed the reasoning why she felt they were wrong...we should be able to talk politics rationally (game or no game) without hating each other for our opinions

Libra said the other night that her political beliefs are strong & she refuses to discuss them. Wonder if she'll be able to continue to stay silent. I personally believe those are topics that are off limits unless you are in a discussion with open minded people. These close quarters would not be a good arena for them to open this type of discussion. Especially because when they have had any type of serious discussions before everyone talks at once & no one seems to listen.

Hi everyone!!

I'm back and caught up on the last few hours that I missed. NO fireworks yet, I didn't miss much!!

BlueX- one of my new gay best friends!! Congratulations on doing sooooo well!! Enjoy your drinks, you deserve them. From one student to another.... I get to spend some time this week reading and trying to wrap my brain around something I really thought I'd love and just can't get into. :( I'm disappointed.

I would have loved to hear a longer political discussion. Too bad.

And a contest!!!! FOR CANADIANS!!! How awesome. I'll be entering every single day!!!!

Now it's official, no kids, no spouse, on holidays and I get to hang out with all of you!!! :)

I think that side of Libra is why I liked her from the start. I imagine that just like me, outside of the house she would never shy away from talking politics in mixed company. She is super smart and would probably relish the opportunity to show the light to anyone who will listen.

Politics and religion are two subject that are always hot issues. Part of the reason is people think that when someone doesn't agree with them the other person is wrong, or ignorant. I feel everyone has to answer for their own decisions. I am conservative and a Christian, but if someone doesn't agree with me that is their choice. I think the only wrong or ignorant mind is the closed mind. As long as someone is willing to listen and allow others to feel differently then that is what makes us human.

Sorry Carolyn, I promise no more controversial discussion from me.

YAY! I finally got some decent sleep. Not the right time of day but I take it when I can get it, like something else I don't get much of :-O

I've caught up on the blogs but i have about 150 comments or more to catch up on, so as I type this, if I am repeating anything already voiced, forgive me.

First: Carolyn I got a big laugh out of this:
2:35pm BBT
Dan & Memphis go inside.
Jessie is in the kitchen eating and talking with Ollie about burnt bacon. Michelle was called to the DR while making bacon.

Has anyone ever played the game "Pigs" ? "Makin' Bacon" is a position you get good points for. (It's like Yahtzee with little pink pigs.)

Now my opinion that I came up with just before I went ZZZ.

It really is smart game play to get Jessie out this week. Once they start going to sequester, we know that couples almost always vote as one. That is enough reason for me. A Michelle/Jessie vote, along with an April/Ollie one minded vote would really screw up the outcome. Couples never think for themselves.

I haven't gone back into BB History, but I know that was the case with the Fitness Twins, Eric and Jessica, Chelsea and James, and.... I know there are more.

It will be bad enough to have ONE couple in sequester. Two would be a first I think and could really screw with who is really the best player in the end.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. Anyone wanna comment, agree or disagree?

:o)

I agree Quentin. Chelsea gave an appearance at a college here in Indiana during her Mom's campaign and I got to watch it on CCTV. Someone asked her about her Mom and Dad(Bill) and about the Monica Lewinsky thing, and she very politely informed him it was none of his business and promptly changed the subject! LOL Very Classy!

Maybe April is going to talk to everyone during the BBAD hours. If not, it will certainly be worth watching tomorrow. But, I hope it is tonight.

Would you not say there were two couples last season...James and Chelsia and Matt and Natt (even tho some didn't think they were a couple???) One would hope they would find their brains while separated in sequester. These are some strong people, I think.

I still don't like Jessie a whole lot and still hope to see him go this week.

Go Dan, he's really moved up in my ranks. Loved the Jessie hug! Too funny!!

And Memphis is getting better. I do think he and Michelle will end up forming a side alliance once the s**t settles down from the eviction?? Maybe???

why is it mature for her(Libra) to walk away? that is a concept that i am not understanding..unless it is being implied that she can not maturely discuss her views..Renny was right..the whole democrat/republican bs gets in the way for who to vote for..does it really matter as long as their views is the same as yours? I don't think so and that is why I will not list myself as either.Because I want to chose the one with my beliefs..Jerry was wrong though Independants do not get to vote in the primaries if there is not an independant. At least in my state.

In a game like this, discussing politics serves no real purpose. Getting into arguments won't make Libra a conservative any more than it will make Dan a liberal.

I'd also like to add that I'm glad to see this discussion hasn't spilled over to the comments here. We all have our views, and they are to be respected.

And I agree with you, Quentin. Chelsea looks pretty good right now, and more importantly, has turned into an intelligent, thoughtful, classy young woman, which isn't always easy for someone who grew up in the spotlight the way she did.

Gaytor, hi sweetie. I used to love the game Pigs, but loaned mine and never got it back.Made a good drinking game I remember. Could never find one again. I worked for a retail chain of clothing stores called Britches (Great Outdoors) and sold them there along with fabulous sweaters, rugbys, for a few years back in the late 80's. I used to do their windows and displays for several stores. Game Pigs was their big thing. We even played it in the store. May be because logo contained a Warthog which was on all the shirts etc. we even sold stuffed Warthogs.

I am disappointed things are just to tame in the house tonight, may have to go hit TIVO and watch Saving Grace.

Interesting, but not a good thing, to discuss politics (and religion) in this kind of atmosphere. Libra is benefitting from not starting her push for Obama. It may very well back fire. I am not surprised about Renny and McCain... I live in SoCal and I know many people who also will vote for him, due to how the Democratic Primary went down. There are many PUMAs out there (disgusted Dems... "Party Unity My A**). Back to Libra, I think that she is the kind of person who would really resent Dan if she knew his politics. For goodness sake, she is upset when somebody talks to somebody else... knowing that somebody is a Nobama... big time, would cause issues. I am sure Dan kept secret to Keesha about his plans to leave the country if her favorite would be President. Smart move.

This house is charged enough... as are the feeds and blogs. I come on here to escape the political news crap. ;-)

Maybe Libra walked off because she knows she has a short temper with stuff like that.

I like to talk politics with some people, but I also have a short temper. If I feel that the person I'm talking to isn't open to considering my opinions and beliefs, then I usually get angry and don't want to talk about it anymore. I have friends that have completely opposite beliefs/opinions than I do regarding religion and politics because we both respect each other. I get very angry when one of my "friends" starts to judge me, argue with me, belittle me, etc because they think that they believe is 100% right and I'm 100% wrong. I've actually had friendships end because of conversations regarding politics/religion. If they won't respect me and my personal opinions (that I don't force onto them) then they will not be my friend.
