Big Brother RENEWED for the 2014 Summer Season on CBS!

Good afternoon, BB Lovers!  I come bearing fantastic news!  ♫Oh,  Come all ye BB faithful...

At 1:24pm eastern, I emailed someone at CBS publicity asking if BB had been renewed yet.. At 4:01pm Eastern, I got the best possible reply!

Big Brother has been renewed for the 2014 Summer Season.  There WILL be a BB16!

When you're done reading the press release, head into the comment section and let us know your BB16 wishes!

Here's the official word, straight from the fine folks at CBS Publicity:

CBS RENEWS "BIG BROTHER" FOR SUMMER 2014

“Big Brother: After Dark” To Also Return to TVGN for Second Season

Special 90-Minute Finale of this Summer’s Installment to be Broadcast Sept. 18 Following the Season Premiere of "Survivor”

CBS announced today that BIG BROTHER, the summer reality hit, has been renewed for its 16th edition, to be broadcast next summer.

BIG BROTHER: AFTER DARK, the live, late night companion show will also return next summer to the basic cable network TVGN after being renewed for an additional season.

BIG BROTHER, which recently celebrated its 500th episode, premiered on CBS in 2000 and has since established itself as a summer staple with one of television’s most socially engaged fan bases.  This summer, BIG BROTHER is averaging 7.29 million viewers, 2.6 in adults 18-49 and 3.1 in adults 25-54.  Compared to last year, BIG BROTHER is up +11% in viewers, +8% in adults 18-49 and +7% in adults 25-54.

The special 90-minute finale of the current installment of BIG BROTHER, when the final three Houseguests will compete for the $500,000 prize, will be broadcast Wednesday, Sept. 18 (9:30-11:00 PM, ET/PT) immediately following the season premiere of SURVIVOR.

This is me, every summer from here on out:
"Yeah, I used to be a fan, until they had that racist season. Then I decided I couldn't watch anymore. I don't want people to think that I'm a bigot based on my television choices."

Have fun guys! Carolyn, I've loved your website and been a regular reader since Season 9! You're an awesome blogger, and have built a wonderful community here.

I don't comment much, but I really enjoy reading your posts, and reading everyone's comments. Muwah!

YAY!!!! Now we can end the speculation theories that all the offensiveness has killed the show!!

Amazing news!!

ON a side note, speaking of offensiveness...how bad is it that you actually have a poll as to which houseguest was the most offensive? LOL

Are the rumors of Allison Grodner being axed true or confirmed yet, I'm pretty sure some changes are coming.

I still think CBS should do Big Brother in January AND July EACH year. ;-)

I've read your blog for YEARS! Truly can't remember how long, but I seem to remember each year the season was added to the end of the URL until BBdish was settled on! (like bb8dish, etc) I can't tell you how much I look forward to this every year (and every morning!)
But, it's taken me this long to actually post a comment.
As much as I enjoy your commentary, respect everyone's opinion - and the differences of - I cannot help but be baffled with so many being enamored by Elissa. Let's forget that she is Rachel's sister, and I really can't figure out what she has done this season to be so special. So imagine my surprise when I viewed the poll about who we would vote for to give the 25k to and I see her in the lead... Which brings me to the most offensive. I'm again confused how GM has received more of a pass then she ever should and I most certainly hope Julie Chen brings it to her attention as she did Aaryn's as I feel GM has spewed racial comments much more often than Aaryn did. (not giving Aaryn a pass at all!)
I don't think this has been the best BB season overall - or by any means! I, personally, am not impressed with any of the houseguests and their ability to treat others with respect and dignity.
Thank you, Carolyn, for all you do and the many hours that you put into all of this so that people like me have a place that they can drop a line... or a few..!

Ok, three conditions if I am going to continue to watch this show: (are you listening CBS? I hope so because I believe I speak for most fans)

1 - Houseguests need some sensitivity training when it comes to personal attacks on others or their family members - race, creed, color, religion, even sexual preference should all be OFF LIMITS and grounds for penalty nominations.

2 - PLEASE - GIVE US A NEW HOUSE! - this dump has run it's course - time for fresh digs and a new look - this house is so boring and offers NOTHING new for years now.

3 - HD? I mean it is 2013 and still no HD? Can BB not afford these? Perhaps this season's bump up at the expense of others due to racists comments generated a little more income for Mrs. Grodner so they can upgrade to HD. I mean who doesn't have a wide screen TV these days? Most of your viewers DO.

4 - (okay, I know I said 3, but...) change up the comps (they are FAR too predictable this year) and have more misery for the losers - add some Survivor elements (slop is getting old, time for a rice only diet perhaps?)

I always say I won't watch when those I dislike win - but then I come back, like a moth to the flame, every year - I admit it, I'm hooked BUT come on, some changes are long, long, long overdue here. These clowns were predicting the comps and double evictions days before they happened.

What happened to "Expect the unexpected"?

I think CBS should do a BB High School Reunion, with all houseguests having gone to high school together. It would be good drama, fun to watch how people react to one another, and could have some good twists and comps!

Well, color me happily surprised! I honestly did not expect the show to be renewed, especially with AG and the originator leaving. I'm cautiously optimistic for some cool changes.

Mainly disgusted that Andy won the veto and that McCrae will be going tonight. I was so hoping that McCrae would win that veto. Can't deny that Andy played his game well, but as others have said, it's not a game I admire. Feh.

Still, looking forward to Finale night and the interview questions and all that entails. Looking forward to seeing the jury house tonight and hearing what they have to say. If they've cooled off and made peace. If they're being nice to Candice, etc. I gave Candice all 10 of my votes for America's Favorite just to compensate for all she endured in the house at the hand of Spencer and the other bigots. I know Elissa will win, and I'm okay with that, mainly because it will really piss off Andy and Spencer. I'm at the "Anyone but Andy" place for the $500K.

Final thought: Good things being given to these HGs were conspicuously missing this season, and I'm glad about that. No outside the house prize, no movie, no real luxury comp, no Pandora's box. They were not rewarded for being horrible people, and at least, I'm grateful that BB made a silent statement that way.

Carolyn, thanks for ALL you do for us! I'll be hitting the tip jar again before the end of the season.

I'm glad it's been renewed but I too would like to see big changes.

We need much longer and less physical endurance competitions.

I too would love a new house.

Far better screening of HGs. Not sure how you can screen for racism and sexism but they need to figure it out.

Never do 90 days ever again, it's gone on to long. The week ahead will be soooooooooooooo long with this f3.

I agree about the house needing a refresh. It's a big enough property, couldn't they rearrange a few walls and make it look different?
I agree about the competitions, though they have made a few new ones lately.
I'd like to see a few more mature people cast. Not Jerry mature, more like Remy mature.
I love when BB messes with the house guests. Aliens, ghosts, snarky robots. I love it. Love that the BB voice had been sassier (TWSS).
There are a lot of great things and some that are stale, but my biggest disappointment of late is the cast. Give us someone, a FEW someones we can care about. Think about what your fans love and find more of that. These self interested shit heads that have nothing but looks are just no fun to watch.

Love that BB is returning... hate BBAD on TVGN.. what a horrible change that has been. So wishing they would return to Showtime. Can't stand the constant bleeping out. Ugh.. I had to quit watching BBAD. Hated to give it up after so many years.. had to do it or it would have made me give of BB all together. Thanks for your hard work Carolyn!

I've been reading this blog since Season 8 and even though I've donated to the Tip Jar in years past, it's about time I registered and left my first comment. Why did I wait for such a craptastic season to finally speak? It seems that the time was right to stab my alliance The Procrastinators in the back. Andy Herron style.

Anyway, I love the blog and find most of the comments intelligent and entertaining. It's the only Big Brother blog I read because I like the way Carolyn runs things. She is one cool dish chick.

So now that the show has been renewed I'm already looking forward to next season. I didn't love this season but I'll be back for sure. I actually don't understand the people who say they'll never watch again because they hated this season. That's like watching a crappy movie and saying "that was crap. I'm never watching a movie again!"

@CaelaM, I agree with you 100%

@Bob Jurgensen, The BB House needs remodeling (I suggest a double sink to start, it drives me crazy to see them wash dishes and every season there are ants. It would save water and they would not run out of hot water. I would rather eat rice over slop any day but for a week it would not be healthy. Change the comps and make the game less predictable.

@Carol Dockery, I know everyone hates BBAD on TVGN but some of us have got to watch it for the first time because they can not afford Showtime. Maybe if they had house HG that could talk in complete sentences without dropping F bombs as every other word, it wouldn't be so bad.

Hi, all. Thank you Carolyn for the wonderful updates and pictures!

Ok, so this year was a sleazy cast. Ratings soared, and daily fights, all of which we love were a big part of this season!

Please cast all funny people! That would be so great. Maybe less fights but much more entertaining for us!!

Just turn down the sound, we are sick of the fish. At least we can still see what's going on.

I liked Showtime After Dark better. It was real time and not all censored.

I love Big Brother. It takes me away from boring every day life for 2-3 months every year. I feel lucky and will go into my tiny adjustment phase next week as there will be no one to listen to.

Thank you

I miss the old food comps from season 5 and earlier, where the whole house had to work together to earn specific food items. I recall a game where they had to spell food items with letters from a pool of pudding, and that was hilarious.

I'd also like to see secret missions like in BB Canada, BB Australia, and BBUK. America needs its version of Marsha the Moose or the fish from the Aussie house.

And I think a great twist would be a secret neighboring house with entrance from the backyard, and half-way through the show, surprise the houseguests by telling them that the jury house will be the house next door!
