Big Brother the Dish
We are nearing the end of yet another season of Big Brother. We laughed. We cried. We cheered. We booed. At times, we have wanted to kiss our monitors and others toss them out the window.
Every season, house guests touch our heart strings or enrage us with a fury like no other. We vote our fingers to the bone, and tune in three times a week to see how it plays out.
We spark up the feeds and watch with amazement at the fights, and shenanigans; we sigh at the romantic moments, or tear at the moments of humanity; or we sit at the edge of our seats through the endurance competitions.
We come together to celebrate, or commiserate. To rant and to postulate.
In the end.
It is a game. A television game generated for a television audience and expanded through the internet feeds.
The house guests are always cast to fulfill types, and they do with gusto. Sometimes, it's a hit. Sometimes, it's a miss. Sometimes, those we admire and root for, win. And sometimes, they don't.
But what always remains, is this wonderful online community that Carolyn put together. And through her hard work, dedication, expertise, fairness and warmth drew us to her.
Many have contributed to this blog over the years that I have been coming here. Reporter X, our sweet night time blogger. Stacey with her beautiful banners. Kim and Dawn with their amazing caps. C=Venus with her fantastically witty chops. Philip Allan with his stunning photography and ingenious videos.
Carolyn even managed to score some BB celebs to grace us with their inside scoop and insight. Chelsia from BB9 last year. Jun the winner of BB4. Even guest appearances from Will from BB5, and Steven from BB10.
When I stumbled into the Dish, I was a TV only. I needed a spoiler desperately, and I waded through some very unsavory places. And then I came here, and was immediately welcomed and accepted into the fold. That was at the beginning of season 9. I would come here daily and refresh my computer into oblivion to find out the latest in the house. I finally got the feeds, yet I came here to share the experience with the Dishy Alliance.
This year, I came in to pinch hit for Reporter X and give Carolyn a break. Truly, I only did about one tenth, if that, of what Carolyn does every single day and has done so for season after season. And let me tell you, it ain't easy.
Keeping up with these insane asylum inmates with their stealth whispering, their voiceless talking, their mile-a-minute dialogues and transcribing it with clarity and integrity is very hard to do. And if that wasn't enough, getting screen caps, and formatting them and adding them to the blog, often in the middle of some incredibly chaotic event can nearly take one over the edge of sanity. But that isn't all. Reading, moderating comments, responding, explaining, and greeting is an essential aspect of this type of blogging.
I didn't know half of the things Carolyn was subjected to there. Some of the comments have made Natalie seem like a candidate for sainthood. It is the omission of those comments that makes this place so incredibly fun and stimulating.
And speaking of comments. Then there are the commentators... All of you, that make this place so very special to be a part of. There are so very many of you, and I would love to give each of you a shout-out, but I don't want this to become an epic novel. :)
But I am compelled to name a few:
Gaytor - Whose incredibly witty and dirty humour tickles us to no end. I would have loved to be able to hang out all night with you, but I am unfortunately a wuss. :)
Blue - My wing man for a time until he left me for the college boys, hehehe, is so full of powerful energy it oozes out through every one of his comments and blogs. You are so sweet! :)
Jane - Our resident legal eagle and wing back psychologist whose wry sense of humour and insights that go right to the jugular makes us spit liquids all over the place if we read her comments unawares. You rock woman. You're my hero. But then you know it. :)
You three have been here since I got here and have always been people I would be honored to call "friend".
This year, more came forward and mostly kept me company in my nightly blogging with their comments and encouragement.
Syn - You are a fearless champion and a wonderful bannerist (I just made that word up! haha).
MsFitz - You're too Gucci for words.
WendyLady - You just crack me up. Every single time!
Michigan Man - You plodded through the night and provided us with invaluable insight on the feeds in real time and flash back. And you earned the nickname Mr. Flashback.
There are so many of you. Judy, Julie, Marci, Michelle, RubyRoo, Mo, Brother Mouzone, Red, Simply Sam, Rhonda, Rosaritoe, Nzinga, Pamela, Kscoot, Ry, Lisa, Illissa, Shamrock, Kent, Jamison, Grendon, Berdache, MnM, and Crisi to name a very few. And Noni, wherever you are! Hope you are well! :)
Please do not think that if I do not name you, I am overlooking you. I am simply running out of memory.... hehe.
And last but not least, Carolyn! Oh man! You are a fountain of intellect and generosity, of your time, your expertise, your humor, your insight and your light.
So, no matter how disappointed we might feel today. No matter how enraged at the turn of events in the BB house. It's a beautiful day every day in the Dishy House.
Thank you for letting me be a part of it. :)
